B : Sure! I’ve been sitting alone for a long time. It would be nice to talk to someone.
(もちろん。長いこと１人で座っていたんです。話し相手ができるなら嬉しいです。)
A : Great! Where are you going?
(それはどうも。どちらへ行かれるんですか？)
B : I’m going to New York.
(ニューヨークへ行くんです。)
A : Oh, me too. Do you live in New York?
(あら、私も。ニューヨークに住んでいるんですか？)
B : No, I’m going to visit a friend. She lives in Manhattan. I’ve never been there.
(いいえ、友達に会いに行くんです。彼女はマンハッタンに住んでいるんです。私は行ったことがないんだけど。)
A : I once lived in New York but I moved away 4 years ago. My husband changed his job so we had to move.
(私は以前ニューヨークに住んでいたんですが、4年前に引っ越したんですよ。夫が転職したので引っ越さざると得なくなって。)
B : That must have been difficult.
(それは大変だったでしょうね。)
A : Well, at first it was difficult. I didn’t know anybody but now I have some new friends and a new job.
(そうですね。最初は大変でした。知り合いもいませんでしたしね。でも、今は新しい友達もできて仕事も見つかりました。)
B : What do you do?
(何をなさっているんですか？)
A : I plan parties, like birthday parties for children and special holiday parties.
(パーティの企画です。子供の誕生日パーティや特別な祝日のパーティなどを企画しているんです。)
B : That sounds like fun!
(楽しそうですね。)
A : I enjoy it. I like to see children laughing and people smiling. When they are happy, I’m happy. I’m going to New York to look for some special chocolate and cheese for a party next week.
(楽しんでますよ。子供たちが笑っているのやみんながニコニコしているのを見るのが好きなので、みんなが幸せなら私も幸せなんです。来週のパーティに使う特別なチョコレートとチーズを探しにニューヨークに行くところなんです。)
B : I’ve heard that New York is a great place for shopping.
(ニューヨークは買い物にもってこいの場所だって聞きましたよ。)
A : Oh, yes! It isn’t cheap but there are many different kinds of stores. I think I’ll go to Manhattan first.
(ええ、そうなんです。安くはありませんが、いろんな種類のお店がありますから。まず、マンハッタンに行こうと思っているんです。)
B : In that case, we could take a taxi together from the bus station. Would you mind doing that?
(それなら、バス停から一緒にタクシーに乗りましょうよ。良かったらそうしませんか？)
A : I’d be glad to! I can help you find your friend’s house.
(喜んで。お友達の家を探すお手伝いをしますよ。)
B : That would be wonderful! Thank you so much.
